Wouldn’t you just know it that tree roots have a way of getting themselves in to the darnedest of places…places like between our house foundation and our main water line to the house:(
Ugh!
Here’s a picture of the root I excavated from
between our concrete foundation and the water line.
As you can see this was a very healthy root.
It wasn’t tapping in to the water line, no, it just worked it’s way in
between the pipe and the house and as it expanded and grew
over the years it weakened the pipe, resulting in a rupture.
That root was the diameter of my forearm. When we got our water bill and saw it had doubled, I knew where to go…I’d been watching the ground in that spot stay moist for months. I figured it was a slow enough leak that I could put it off, ha, and I did put it off, too long. The leak got so bad after I tried to remove the root that we had a small mud pit in our back yard for a couple weeks. The water leaking from the pipe was saturating the ground and made it’s way to our front yard (we live on a hill).
This repair cost us $256.00!
I still had the hole to fill in at this point. Hate to cover up such an expensive piece of pipe, ha.
Oh how I love home ownership!

I don't understand. If the root was the diameter of your arm it shouldn't have been causing any problems. Ha!
Isn't owning a house sometimes just the pits? Sometimes Paul and I reminicse about the days when it wasn't our problem when things went wrong - but only sometimes! Hope all goes better now that it's repaired!
Oh plumbing problems! Did Mike ever tell you about the time he hit the water pipe in the backyard of our old Oroville house while building our fence?! :) By the way, I love your hair Raeanne!!
Nice! I love living in an apartment, rrrrright.
