So we tackled mom's flooring project yesterday. Wow, what a job. Mom, Matt, and I started at 6 a.m. and the last piece of floor was laid at 6 p.m.

The demo part is always kinda fun:) You get to break things and make a big mess. What guy doesn't get a kick out of that? Too bad we had to clean up our mess though, ha.

We were shocked to find that beneath all the carpet and carpet pad in the living room and hallway was a nasty version of 1970's lenoleum. It was almost tempting to just tear all the carpet out and leave the vintage lenoleum for the final result, ha.

Out with the old- and I do mean old. This carpet was laid in mom's house back int 1994 as a result of a tornado that twirled through our neighborhood, busting in almost all of the windows and ruining the old carpet with bits of glass peppered throughout the house.
In with the new- new hardwood laminate flooring that Mom, Katie, and Matt found a heck of a good deal on.

We kinda liked the way this underlay looked and if we had stopped here we would have been done before noon:) That would have been nice, then we would've had time to go swimming to cool off.

The underlay wasn't gonna cut it though, it would most likely rip from foot traffic. Besides, we didn't have any green duct tape to match it so we used good old grey duct tape to join the seams . If that tape didn't look so tacky then maybe we would've left it a soft, green, foam floor. Ha, yeah right, this wood flooring looks so great. We couldn't wait to see what the whole room would look like as we laid row after row.

The hallway was much, much easier to do after conquering the living room. It was at this point that Matt and I agreed that if we were to become professional wood flooring guys we would specialize in hallways, and more specifically, hallways without doorjams. I think I would also invest in some knee pads that have ice pack inserts.
So after a long 12 hour day of flooring and the girls gabbing while Matt and I worked our knees off, the floor looks great. We are very pleased and Mom is so satisfied with her investment.
